NCW Workers' Compensation Trust Cooperative

About

NCESD administers the North Central Washington (NCW) Workers’ Compensation Trust, which promotes a safe and healthy work environment, individual return to work plans and safety programs for schools district staff. In the event of a work related injury or illness, the Trust manages and monitors medical cost, lost wages, and pension benefits to school personnel. The Trust offers the above benefits in lieu of the state’s industrial insurance program at a cost savings to districts.

What's new...

Some changes are taking place to the Workers Compensation Pool.
These modifications are necessary due to several factors:
  • Increased cost of managing claims
  • Increase in the number of claims
  • The known fact that cost is going to continue to rise
Suzanne Reister works as Program Manager for the Trust. Suzanne works as the liaison among the districts, employees and the third party administrator. Implementation of a strong Return to Work Program is in process. Over the next couple of months a team from the ESD will be in your district explaining and promoting this program. Our goal is to make this an easy to use process that is supported by all superintendents and personnel. Paula Vanderpool works as the Program Assistant for the Trust. She works with staff and trains districts on the Hearing Conservation Program, required Accident Prevention Plan, Ladder Safety, Heat Illness training, on-line SafeSchools Training and support for Workers' Compensation.

Benefits to a Return to Work Program:
  • Studies show that injured workers recover more quickly and with less impairment when they return to work as soon as possible after their injury.
  • An employee is less likely to become treatment dependent and more likely to feel valued and self confident after returning to work.
  • The cost associated with medical treatment and temporary wage replacement is minimized.
  • There is an overall claim cost reduction.
  • Should result in controlling your workers compensation insurance premiums.
