Superintendents' Advisory Committee
 
What is SAC all about?
 
The Superintendents' Advisory Committee (SAC) is composed of representatives from each of the four counties that North Central ESD serves: Chelan, Douglas, Grant and Okanogan.  Superintendents in this group have committed to work together to "ignite student learning."

New Superintendents' Orientation
 
{New Superintendent ORientation} A new Superintendent Orientation was held August 9, 2010 at the ESD.  New superintendents attending were: Eric Driessen, Brewster School District; Steve McKenna, Cascade School District; Dennis Carlson, Grand Coulee Dam School District; Rob Manahan, Lake Chelan School District; and Dan McDonald, Soap Lake School District.  Steve Quick, new superindent from Oroville School District, was unable to attend. 
 
Board Chair Si Bautista and Superintendent Rich McBride extended a welcome from the ESD.  Matt Charlton and Millie Watkins, regional WASA officers, welcomed the group and shared details about SAC and WASA. A wide variety of presenters who spoke on important issues for superintendents included: Paul Rosier, WASA Executive Director; Brad Smedley, Wilson Creek Superintendent; members of the Canfield team; Doug Nichols and Jeff Soehren from the Construction Services Group (CSG); and Cindy Duncan, Ismael Vivanco, Douglas Poole, Pete Phillips, Suzanne Reister, Rich McBride and Eldene Wall from the ESD.  Breakfast was provided by Canfield.
 
April 15, 2010 SAC Meeting
 
{stevemckenna} Steve McKenna, NCESD District Liaison, brought Part II of the Summit Schools Project to the April 15 SAC Meeting.  This continued the focus on Teaching and Learning and highlighted "what we have learned in the Summit Schools lProject about formative assessments, observing classrooms and improving instruction through better data." 
 
Karl Nelson, Assistant Director of Tech and Ops from OSPI, brought an update from the Digital Learning Department (DLD) highlighting online learning.  Alan Burke, OSPI Deputy Superintendent, brought a "Race to the Top" update via K-20.   ESD reports included an MLA update from Mary Jane Ross, Regional Science Coordinator, and a report on the Innovation Grants staff are currently working on.  {maryjane}

Please Note:  SAC meetings have been moved to the third Thursday of the month, with the exception of November, which is adjusted because of the WSSDA Conference.  The January meeting will be a K-20.
