Camp Scout-A-Vista
The Wenatchee Foothills

8:30AM-3:00PM

24 STEM Clock Hours Available!

Living on the “Dry Side” of Washington provides us with a vastly varied natural landscape which draws “yearners” from around the country. Maintaining this unique corner of the world is challenge.
This four day workshop uses recent North Central Washington fires and its effects, to learn what happened, how it has affected us, and how we can effectively use this event to create investigations as tools to teach students. It challenges us to ask our students to design solutions for restoration and prevention. We will provide hands on practice daily.

Topics included:

  • Field Journaling, Jenny Rieke.

  • Fire Ecology: Paul Hessburg and Bob Garretson.

  • “What’s that Bird” with Audubon Education: Mark Oswood.

  • Field Investigations and GIS mapping technology: Kristen Bates, NCESD.

  • Shrub Steppe Ecology and Weeds: Julie Sanderson, Chelan County Weed Board.

  • Post-Fire Plant Surveys: Susan Ballinger, Chelan Douglas Land Trust.
