NCESD Regional Knowledge Bowl Tournament

Do you know what kind of electromagnetic radiation has wavelengths longer than red lights but shorter than radio waves? If you answered “microwaves," you would have been in good company this year's Regional Knowledge Bowl Tournament. The NCESD Regional Knowledge Bowl Tournament took place on Monday, February 28, at Wenatchee Free Methodist Church. The tournament consists of 4 rounds, with one written round and four other rounds of head-to-head competition. Teams scoring the most points in their divisions head to the State Knowledge Bowl Competition in Camus, WA on March 27th.

This year's competition was extremely competitive. Teams are expected "buzz in" first and answer questions in a 15 second time limit. Questions are not easy-- competitors are often questioned about current events, chemistry, history, literature, geology, geography, math and more. In the AAAA division, Moses Lake defeated Wenatchee and Eastmont earning a place to state. In the AA division, it came down to the last round with Ephrata and Cascade earning trips to state in the AA division. In the A division, Okanogan earned their fifth state trip in a row with Liberty Bell earning the second slot. In the B division, Waterville outscored Manson by one point to earn the only trip to state in that division. Sportsmanship awards went out to Wahluke, coached by Mike Smith and Okanogan, coached by Jeff Cheeseman.

Special thanks goes out to North Central ESD, especially Pat Trefry for sponsoring the event, along with Haglund's trophies for their continued support.
