    This site has an extensive listing of resources related to drug and alcohol abuse prevention. It contains and opportunity to look at current research and statistics as well as the resources available.

  • The Anti-Drug.
    Provides parents and other adult caregivers with strategies and tips on raising healthy, drug-free children. Check the Teachers' Guide.

  • Join Together Online
    One of the most comprehensive online resources you'll find for a variety of health-related topic. A particular focus is given to news on both illicit and legal drugs, including alcohol and tobacco. Sign up for the daily e-mail newsletter!

  • National Institutes of Health
    Includes health resources related to substance abuse, including AIDS, and HealthFinder, a gateway consumer health and human services information web site from the United States government.

  • Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP)
    Has extensive fact sheets on drugs and links to other useful online resources. Includes the Decision Support System, an online prevention programming planning tool, based on best practices.

    Learn how about students (around the world) are helping make a difference in the fight for healthy lifestyles.

  • National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University
    CASA provides a wealth of useful information on the dangers that drugs place on American society, including the financial costs of substance abuse to society, the impact of substance abuse, and information especially for youth and women.

  • Partnership for a Drug Free America
    The Partnership works to decrease demand for drugs and other substances by changing societal attitudes which support, tolerate or condone drug use. Information resources available for parents and teens.

  • Girl Power!
    The national public education campaign sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to help encourage and motivate 9- to 14- year-old girls to have very strong attitudes about their health and to make the most of their lives. Extensive information and activities of interest to girls and the grownups who care for them.

  • Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)
    In addition to definitive information on impaired driving, extensive information is available on alcohol (with a particular focus on underage drinking).

  • American Legacy Foundation
    Legacy's top priorities are to reduce tobacco use by young people and to support programs that help people -- whether they are young or old - quit smoking.

  • QuitNet
    This site focuses exclusively on helping smokers 'kick the habit,' but you will be hard-pressed to find a better tobacco-related site. Includes chat, tobacco news, and an active online support group.

  • Outrage Avenue
    Hip music and interactive web effects keep teens and pre-teens involved in learning the truth about tobacco and they call it an "outrage." Includes episodes of "Unfiltered," a teen-focused reality show about teen tobacco use and quitting. Offers opportunities for Washington State teen involvement at local and state levels.

    News, reports, extensive research information, and free materials regarding illegal drug use are all available and more directly from the White House's Drug Policy Initiative.

  • Common Sense
    Focuses on parenting strategies, alcohol and drug abuse education, and teaching how to build strong family bonds from the National PTA.

  • Freevibe
    Freevibe is a fun and educational website for kids to understand the dangers of substance abuse so that they can make responsible decisions in for their lives.

Violence-Related Prevention Resources
 
  • National Crime Prevention Council
    Building safer, more caring communities through community-based prevention awareness education and empowerment activities. Many school-based resources available too.

  • National Strategy for Suicide Prevention
    A collaborative effort between SAMHSA, CDC, NIH, and HRSA. Between 1952 and 1995, the incidence of suicide among adolescents and young adults nearly tripled. From tip sheets to full research reports, this site has comprehensive links to many useful suicide prevention resources.
