With rising labor costs across the United States\, alternatives to hand pruning and current training systems require consideration. One management strategy is the transition from a tall spindle tree training system to a narrow tree wall\, facilitating some worker-related aspects of apple tree production such as pruning\, harvesting\, and fruit thinning. \nAutomated fieldwork has become increasingly popular\, but how effective are these methods and what impacts do mechanical hedging and root pruning have on apple trees grown in a high-density orchard? Over the years\, environmental and human health issues regarding the application of some of these chemical pesticides\, such as the presence of multi-drug resistant strains\, have arisen\, accelerating the modification of the pesticide regulations by many countries\, and creating a need for novel plant protection products. \nOver the past decades\, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have continuously been proposed as a potential tool to create sustainable pesticides and disease resistant crops. For example\, ponderosa pine is found in relatively dryer warmer low-elevation sites\, cottonwood is found along moister riparian areas\, and lodgepole pine is found at higher elevations with relatively more winter snowpack. As climate changes\, some areas will become unsuitable for current tree species\, while other areas may become newly suitable. \nHow can the ongoing shifts in tree species be monitored to better understand the ways that forests are changing and predict what those changes mean for the forest? DESCRIPTION:Overview**Training is subject to cancellation if there are not at least 25 people registered by December 1st\, 2022. \nThis intensive 13-hour interactive workshop is designed to teach educational and caregiver teams the theory and protocol for the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)\, an evidence-based practice based on Applied Behavior Analysis\, typical language development\, and B.F. Skinner’s Verbal Behavior. \nThe workshop begins with an introduction to creating the most effective learning environment for implementing PECS via The Pyramid Approach to Education. Included is a discussion of the limitations of teaching other communication modalities (speech\, sign\, SGD) as an initial communication strategy. \nUsing presenter demonstrations\, role-play opportunities\, and video examples participants will gain a thorough understanding and hands-on experience of each of the six phases of PECS.Participants will leave the training with the skills necessary to teach spontaneous requesting\, picture discrimination\, sentence structure\, attributes for expanding language\, extended vocabulary\, responding to questions\, and commenting. \nThe workshop concludes with a review of the extensive literature supporting the PECS protocol as an evidence-based practice\, tips to teach your learner to accept being told\, “No\,” and information related to transitioning from PECS to other communication modalities\, such as speech\, tablets with AAC apps\, or speech generating devices. These professional\, no-cost assessments are provided upon request on a voluntary basis and can help any organization with managing risk and strengthening the cybersecurity of our Nation’s critical infrastructure. \nAs an agency of the Department of Homeland Security\, CISA–the Cyberseurity and Infrastructure Security Agency–leads the national effort to understand\, manage\, and reduce risk to our cyber and physical infrastructure. Theresa will provide an overview of CISA\, an outline of cyber services available to the education sector at no charge\, and best practices to improve the cyber security posture of your business. \nPrior to her current role\, Theresa served as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the Port of Portland for 5+ years. This disease is caused by the plant pathogenic bacterium\, Xylella fastidiosa\, which is transmitted between grapevine and other plant hosts by xylem sap feeding insects such as sharpshooter leafhoppers\, spittlebugs\, and cicadas. An understanding of the interactions between the bacterium\, insect vectors\, and their plant hosts is key to managing this disease.
