On April 14, 2021, Larry MacGuffie was honored for his decades of service to students and educators in North Central Washington during the Washington Association of Educational Service Districts (AESD) Annual Membership meeting.

Presented by Clear Risk Solutions, the AESD Executive Board Award of Distinction recognizes an individual who has demonstrated leadership in education, shows a deep commitment through their service and contributions to the AESD Network, and consistently and effectively engages with education service districts across the state.

MacGuffie is the past Chair of the North Central ESD Board and has served on the board for 14 years representing Ephrata, Quincy, Soap Lake, Warden, and Wilson Creek School Districts as the District #4 Representative.

As a lifetime educator and longtime member of the AESD family, MacGuffie was an original member of the AESD Board and his efforts were instrumental in forming the AESD Network’s Operating Principals, said Eric Homer the vice president of Clear Risk Solutions during the award presentation.

“He is passionate about ensuring that all kids have access to high quality programs and services, and that their zip code should not deny this access,” Homer added. “He truly understands the importance of a regional and state system in supporting this access.”

Before his retirement in 1997, he served 31 years as a classroom teacher, school psychologist, director of special services, director of Columbia Basin Alternative High School and superintendent of Ephrata School District. Following his school district service he continued to support education through work at Canfield and Associates in Ephrata.

“Larry reliably brings humor, stories, and a positive attitude to the table,” Home said. “These traits, along with his lifelong commitment to students, schools, and the education system in our state make him from the North Central ESD board the perfect recipient for this year’s award.”
