About May’s Event – Supporting the Next Generation of Cybersecurity Professionals with the Microsoft TEALS Program

Presentation by: Microsoft TEALS Program

The Microsoft Philanthropies TEALS Program supports CS and Cybersecurity Education by partnering schools with industry professionals to teach and train high school teachers to build and grow their ability to offer Computer Science. Current Cybersecurity professionals and TEALS volunteers will share about their experience engaging high school students in Cybersecurity, including highlights, challenges, and opportunities to promote and support the next generation of the Cybersecurity workforce.

Panel Facilitator:
Adam McDonald is a Regional Manager and Specialist with the Microsoft TEALS Program. Prior to joining TEALS, he taught middle school CS in Seattle for six years, teaching a range of CS topics and building a CS pathway for his students. He also taught internationally in Thailand and worked in partnership with industry mentors at a STEM education startup in Bellevue, WA. Adam is passionate about CS education and helping underrepresented students access CS education.

Panel Members:
Jim Masson: Jim worked at Microsoft for 26 years in a range of product management roles, often with features which had an interesting security angle. This included the software installer on Windows, Windows Update, Active Directory and Group Policy, and SharePoint. He was head of product for Microsoft Word for 6 years, and spent his last years at the company on a project to integrate Python into Excel. He left Microsoft in 2023, and is now a full time woodworker and furniture maker.

Tsan Zheng: Tsan started working for Microsoft in 2003 and is still working there after 20+ years. Tsan’s career focus has shifted a few times with the last decade in cloud security.
