Statewide Bicycle Education Program Participates at 2025 Apple Blossom

The NCESD Bicycle Education team participated in the annual Apple Blossom parade last weekend to share about the Statewide School-Based Bicycle Education Program that is available to public schools in our region.

So many people were jumping up and down and excited to see that bicycle education is happening in our area,” said Ian Woodford, Managing Director, Statewide Bicycle Ed Program. “For others it was there first time hearing about the program, so it was nice to get in front of them. All the kids waved, and it was cool to know they will all get to experience our program soon.”

The statewide program integrates comprehensive bicycle instruction with physical education across Washington schools, promoting healthy and active transportation alternatives for students. The program teaches necessary skills for children and teens to become confident and capable bicyclists, with a goal of providing bicycle education to 90% of Washington public school students in grades three to eight by 2039.

The North Central Educational Service District is proud to bring this program to public schools in the North Central region. This program is taught during PE and teaches bicycle skills and traffic safety laws to students in grades 3 through 8.

The program is funded by Cascade Bicycle Club and the Washington State Department of Transportation. All public schools are eligible to participate in the Bicycle Education Program at no cost.
