Schools earn state Achievement Awards

Bridgeport High School, two Eastmont School District elementary schools — Cascade and Lee — and Ephrata’s Grant Elementary are among 280 schools statewide to earn Washington Achievement Awards for the 2016 academic school year.

The awards, announced by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education, use the state’s Achievement Index and assessment data from the previous three years to select recipients in seven categories.

Bridgeport High School won for overall excellence and extended graduation rate.

Cascade Elementary School won for closing the achievement gap for both English language learners and Hispanic students. Lee Elementary won for English language acquisition. Ephrata’s Grant Elementary School was recognized for closing the achievement gap for Hispanic students and students with disabilities.

All three of the elementary schools include kindergarten through fourth grade.

The Achievement Index (https://eds.ospi.k12.wa.us/WAI) is a statewide school accountability system that measures student proficiency in math, English language arts, science, student growth, and college and career readiness. This is the eighth year for the awards.
