Explore the student’s brain and how it is wired for spoken language. We will ground our learning in the Simple View of Reading and The Reading Rope.
Connect the brain research to the foundational Word Recognition knowledge students need to learn to read; phonological and phonemic awareness.
Further your understanding of the importance of Print Concepts; understanding the features and organization of print, recognition and formation of letters.
Deepen your understanding of the sound and spelling patterns through analysis of the relationship among sounds, letters, and roots within words.
We’ll discuss oral language development and how it transfers to both reading and writing tasks. We’ll look at the reciprocal relationship between sentence reading and writing.
Deepen your knowledge of the Washington State MTSS Framework and how it connects to early literacy instruction.
