Overview
Learn why notebooks matter, discover philosophies supporting phenomenon-driven three-dimensional learning, and develop practical implementation strategies. Through notebook practice, students document thinking, revise models, plan investigations, and analyze data while strengthening science and language skills. Students can use their notebooks to pose questions, write down observations, work through puzzling data, or think through new ideas.
Join us for an interactive session with ideas to transform your classroom with strategic notebooking practices that track students’ sensemaking, evolving ideas and uncover each student’s strengths and challenges. Participants will create and leave with a sample science notebook.
The content of this session was developed using the book Science Notebooks in Student Centered Classrooms by Jessica Fries-Gaither. The book is not required for the session, but can be purchased from NSTA or Amazon if interested.
