NCESD hosts Camp Biota and Camp Tinker, with featured Student Expo

North Central Educational Service District (NCESD) is hosting the second-annual Camp Biota and the first-annual Camp Tinker this week. Activities associated with both camps will be located at the Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp in Leavenworth.

Both week-long camps are presented by the NCESD in partnership with Leavenworth Fish Hatcheries, YMCA of Wenatchee, North Central Regional Libraries, and Wenatchee Valley College.

The goal of both overnight camps is to increase interest in, understanding of, and engagement with nature and STEM education. Middle school students in the Migrant Education Program from Brewster, Eastmont, Lake Chelan, Nespelem, Orondo, Pateros, Quincy, Tonasket, Warden, and Wenatchee School Districts will be participating in both camps.

Participants of Camp Biota will explore topics such as biology, wildlife, salmon, and water quality. Participants of Camp Tinker will explore topics related to robotics, computer science, navigation, and virtual reality. Both camps utilize STEM professionals, and college students studying STEM degrees as facilitators.

Both events will culminate with a Student Expo that will feature projects inspired by the camps. The Student Expo will showcase projects students have designed and built that utilizes their gained knowledge from camp. The Student Expo is Saturday, April 6 from 10-12:30pm at Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp, located at 15263 North Shore Drive in Leavenworth. The Expo is free and open to the public.
