About Pre-Employment Transition Services

NCESD has partnered  with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) to deliver Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) to students within our region.

Pre-ETS workshops are designed to provide essential services to youth with an Individualized Education Program (IEP), 504 Plan, or a documented disability. Our workshops are centered around developing essential job skills, enabling youth to successfully transition into the workforce upon graduation.

Pre-ETS Workshops

During the school year, NCESD conducts workshops at local high schools for youth aged 14-21, enrolled in high school or college. Workshop topics focus on critical areas such as work readiness skills, self-advocacy, and work-based learning experiences.

Work Readiness Skills

  • Dedicated to preparing youth for the world of work and fostering independence.
  • Workplace Readiness Skills includes a variety of topics such as: soft skills training, time management, punctuality, financial literacy, mock interviews, resume building, and accessing services/supports.

Self-Advocacy Training

  • Empowering individuals to understand their rights, responsibilities, and how to request accommodations or services/supports during the transition to post-secondary education and employment.

Work-Based Learning

  • Providing youth with invaluable opportunities to explore jobs and gain practical experience before graduation.
  • Work-Based Learning opportunities include job shadowing, workplace tours, informational interviews, and paid internships.

At NCESD, we are devoted to empowering the next generation to successfully transition into the workforce and independent living. Through our meaningful Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) workshops, we believe in harnessing the transformative power of education.

Job Site Tours: A Gateway to Career Exploration
If your business aims to showcase career opportunities within your industry, we invite you to join our initiative of hosting job site tours. These tours offer students a firsthand experience within your facility, providing valuable insights into your careers, educational requirements, and a real-world glimpse of the workforce.

Paid Internships: Experiencing Future Career Fields
Our paid internships present a valuable opportunity for students to gain hands-on work experience after school, on weekends, and during the summer. NCESD Paid Internships range from 40 to 120 hours, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience. To guarantee a seamless process, students undergo pre-screening by teachers and NWESD, while businesses conduct soft interviews, ultimately providing final approval.
